Your client lives in Toronto, flies to Dubai on Tuesday, lands in London on Thursday and needs a car in New York the following Monday. You are dispatching all of it from one desk, in one time zone, often at hours when the people on the other end are asleep or just waking up.

International work is some of the most valuable business a limo company can win, and it is also where the most avoidable mistakes happen. The classic one is simple: a pickup entered in the dispatcher's local time instead of the passenger's, and a chauffeur who arrives an hour early, or an hour late. This guide covers how to dispatch across time zones on LimoFarmOut without that happening.

The golden rule: local time at the pickup

On LimoFarmOut, a pickup time always belongs to the city where the passenger is collected. When you post, enter the time as the passenger will see it on the ground, not as it reads on your office wall.

The post form helps. Next to the pickup date and time there is a pickup time zone field. A dispatcher in Toronto posting a Heathrow pickup is posting it in London time. The driver in London sees it in London time, and the passenger's texts match.

It sounds obvious, and that's why it goes wrong. At 2 am after a long shift, "09:30" is easy to type without thinking about which 09:30 you mean. Check the time zone on every international job before you pay.

Watch the edges: overnight flights and clock changes

Two situations catch out even experienced dispatchers.

Because the pickup time is stored against the pickup city's time zone, you don't need to calculate the offset yourself. You just need to make sure you've entered the local time and the right date.

Posting a job abroad, step by step

Farming out in another country follows the same steps as at home, with a few extra checks.

  1. Post it in the pickup city. Enter the city, country, address or terminal, and the flight number for airport pickups.
  2. Set the local pickup time and confirm the time zone.
  3. Choose the passenger's language. Their texts and tracking page can be in English, Español, Français, Português, العربية or हिन्दी.
  4. Enter the passenger's phone with the right flag. Every phone field has a country picker, so you type the number the way it's written at home and the country code is added for you.
  5. Set the payout and waiting terms. The form shows what similar trips in that city paid, which helps when you don't know local rates.
  6. Pay once, up front. The job is funded before local drivers see it, so a chauffeur you've never met knows the money is there.

A verified local driver then accepts. Their licence, insurance and vehicle documents were checked by a person, and they run the trip under their own local licence and insurance. They are paid within 48 hours of drop-off, to a bank in their own country through Stripe. For a fuller picture of cross-border work, see the global hub.

Following trips while you sleep

International dispatch means some trips happen in your night. You can't stay awake for every one, and you don't need to.

Coordinating changes across time zones

When a client abroad changes plans, use Change pickup time on the job page and enter the new local time. The driver sees it at once in the trip chat and on their trip screen, and the passenger is texted. If you're moving the pickup later, message the driver first, because they may give the job back without penalty. Our guide to changing pickup time after posting has the details.

Keep chat messages clear about which time you mean: "18:00 London time" is better than "6 pm". Phone numbers, emails and links typed in the chat are removed, so keep the conversation about the trip.

Your client, protected in every country

Cross-border work is where client protection matters most, because the driver is a stranger in another country. On every job, the driver promises not to contact your client or passenger directly. The private trip line means nobody sees anyone's real number, and breaking the promise can close the driver's account. For more, read how owner-operators work with operators worldwide.

Plan the whole trip, not just the car

International clients usually need more than a chauffeur. Flights, hotels, resorts and activities can be searched through our travel partner BookingWorldwide.net.

Frequently asked questions

Which time zone do I use when posting a limo job abroad?

The pickup city's. Pickup times are set in that city's time zone, so enter the time the passenger will see on the ground.

Can I farm out a limo job in any country?

Yes. Jobs can be posted in any city in the world, and driver payouts go through Stripe to a bank in the driver's country.

How does the passenger get updates in another language?

When posting, choose the passenger's language. Their texts and tracking page can be in English, Español, Français, Português, العربية or हिन्दी.

Do I need to stay awake for overnight trips abroad?

No. The passenger gets texts and a tracking link in your company's name, the trip statuses are recorded, and you have 24 hours after the trip to report a problem.

How do I enter a foreign phone number for the passenger?

Pick the country's flag in front of the phone field and type the number as it's written locally. The country code is added for you.
