Reach the Chauffeur by Private Trip Line and Chat
How dispatchers reach a farmed-out chauffeur through the trip chat and private trip line, while the client's phone number and email stay protected.

Farming out a trip used to mean handing over three things at once: the job, the client's phone number, and a bit of your business. The driver needed to reach the passenger, so the number went into a message, and from then on you hoped for the best.
LimoFarmOut separates the conversation from the contact details. Every trip has its own chat between you and the driver, and a private trip line that connects the passenger and the chauffeur without either seeing the other's real number. This guide explains how dispatchers use each one, and why it keeps your client yours.
Two channels, two jobs
Think of the trip as having two lines of communication.
- The trip chat is between you, the poster, and the driver who accepted. Use it for anything operational: a gate code, a second passenger, a request to arrive ten minutes early, a question about bags.
- The private trip line is between the chauffeur and the passenger. It handles calls and texts so the passenger can say "I'm at door 4" and the chauffeur can say "I'm in the black SUV at the kerb".
Keeping them apart is the point. You stay in control of the trip details, and the passenger gets a direct way to reach their driver that never exposes a personal number.
How the private trip line works
When you post a job, you can choose to have the passenger texted a private number to reach their chauffeur, in your company's name. When a driver is assigned, that text arrives with the chauffeur's first name, the vehicle and a live tracking link.
From the driver's side, the trip screen has Call passenger and Text passenger buttons. Both go through the trip's private number. A few rules keep it secure:
- Only the registered mobile can use it. The line connects from the mobile on the driver's account, or the named chauffeur's mobile when a fleet sends one of its drivers. Calls from another phone, from WhatsApp or from an office line are refused for privacy.
- There is a way round office phones. A driver at a computer, or using an office line, can tap Call from my mobile: their registered mobile rings first and the passenger is connected when they answer.
- It closes after the trip. The line stops connecting 30 minutes after the trip, so it can't be used to rebook the client later. If the passenger left something in the car and the driver ticks "I found something", the line stays open for a day to arrange its return.

What the trip chat filters out
The chat is where most of your coordination happens, so it is also where a number could slip through. LimoFarmOut removes phone numbers, emails and links typed in the chat. A driver can't type their personal number to the passenger's assistant, and you don't have to police every message.
This sits alongside the promise every driver makes. On each job they accept or bid on, the driver confirms they won't contact your client or passenger directly, share their own number or take them as a client, now or later. Breaking the rule can close their account. Our post on handing off limo jobs safely covers that promise in more depth.
What the driver sees, and what they don't
When you post, the passenger section asks for the passenger's name, phone, flight number and the language for their texts and tracking page. Here is how each is handled:
- Passenger name: shared only with the driver who accepts, so they can greet the passenger or hold a name sign.
- Passenger phone: never shown to the driver. It is used only to connect the private line and send the texts.
- Flight number: on the driver's trip screen for airport pickups.
- Notes drivers see before accepting: describe the trip, not the person. No names or phone numbers.
As the poster, you see the driver's contact details for the jobs you posted. That asymmetry is intentional: you are responsible for the client, so you can always reach the person running the trip.
Good chat habits for dispatchers
The chat is only as useful as what you put in it. A few habits make farmed-out trips smoother:
- Confirm the night before. For early pickups, a short "All good for 06:00 at the Royal York?" catches problems while there's time to fix them.
- Use the right tool for time changes. If the pickup moves, use Change pickup time on the job page rather than a chat message. The driver sees the new time at once in the chat and on the trip screen, and the passenger is texted. See changing pickup time after posting.
- Keep it on the record. If there is ever a dispute, the team may review job records, chat history and trip location data. Agreeing an extra stop in the chat is far better than agreeing it in a private call.
- Let the statuses do the rest. En route, On location, Passenger on board and Completed answer most "where are you" questions. See tracking a farmed-out trip live.
Why privacy is a dispatch issue, not just a legal one
Client data is your book of business. When a number leaves your hands, you can't take it back. Privacy regulators make the same point in their guidance for businesses, whether that's the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the overview of Europe's rules at GDPR.eu. Following the law is one reason to protect passenger data; keeping your clients is another.
A private trip line, a filtered chat and a no-contact promise on every job let you farm out work without giving away the relationship. That is what makes it reasonable to farm out to a chauffeur you've never met in a city you've never visited.

Frequently asked questions
Can the chauffeur see my passenger's phone number?
No. The driver sees the passenger's name and the trip, never their phone number. Calls and texts go through the trip's private number.
What happens if someone types a phone number in the trip chat?
Phone numbers, emails and links typed in the chat are removed, so contact details can't be passed through it.
How long does the private trip line stay open?
It closes 30 minutes after the trip. If the driver reports a found item, it stays open for a day so the item can be returned.
Can a driver call the passenger from an office phone?
Not directly. The line only connects the registered mobile, but the driver can use Call from my mobile, which rings their registered mobile first and then connects the passenger.
Can I, as the poster, contact the driver?
Yes. You can message the driver in the trip chat, and posters see the driver's contact details for jobs they posted.
