How to Become an Independent Chauffeur: Step by Step
A step-by-step guide for independent chauffeurs joining LimoFarmOut: free sign-up, the documents a person checks, Stripe payout setup and your first job.

You have the car, the licence and the experience. Maybe you've driven for a limo company for years and want to work for yourself. Maybe you already run your own car and want more work than your regular clients give you. Either way, the question is the same: how do you get from "signed up" to "first job paid" without wasting a week?
This guide covers how to become an independent chauffeur on LimoFarmOut, in the order that actually works. Most chauffeurs are ready to accept jobs the same week they join.
Before you start: what to have ready
Gather these before you open the sign-up page. Having them to hand turns a slow afternoon of searching for files into a twenty-minute job.
- Your driver's licence.
- Any chauffeur, livery or for-hire licence your city requires.
- Your commercial insurance document for the vehicle.
- Vehicle ownership or registration.
- A professional photo of yourself.
- Clear photos of your vehicle: front, back, inside, trunk and plate.
- Your bank details and identity documents for Stripe.
If your city doesn't issue a separate chauffeur licence, upload what your city does require. Requirements vary by city and country, and LimoFarmOut checks that yours are in place.
Step 1: Sign up free
Go to the chauffeur sign-up page. You'll enter your name, mobile number, city and the vehicle you drive. It takes about two minutes. There's no sign-up fee and no monthly fee.
You'll choose how you work:
- I drive: you take jobs from other operators and drive them.
- I drive and farm out: you take jobs, and you also post your own trips when you can't cover them. Many owner-operators pick this one. It's explained in using "I drive and farm out" to hand off overflow.
You can switch later under your account settings. Your jobs, payouts and documents stay with you.
Sign-in uses a one-time link sent to your email, so there's no password to forget. Keep your email account secure, because that link is your key.
Step 2: Upload your documents
Open the Documents section of your account and upload each file. A person reviews every upload, usually within a business day. Your files are stored encrypted, and nobody outside the verification team can open them.
A few tips that save time:
- Photograph documents flat and in good light. A blurry insurance certificate is the most common reason for a second upload.
- Check expiry dates before you upload. A document that expires next week will need replacing almost straight away.
- Make vehicle photos honest. They are shown to posters when they compare drivers. A clean, well-lit car in the photos sets the right expectation.
Approval means a person reviewed what you uploaded. It does not replace your own duty to stay licensed and insured. Reminders arrive 30, 7 and 1 days before a document expires, and if a required document expires you can't take new jobs until a renewed one is approved. Why verified documents build trust explains how operators use this record.

Step 3: Set up payouts with Stripe
LimoFarmOut pays drivers through Stripe, the payment company. Under Earnings, choose Set up payouts and complete the Stripe steps: your identity and the bank account where you want to be paid. Your bank details go to Stripe, never to LimoFarmOut. Payouts arrive in your country's currency.
Stripe can take a few minutes to confirm you. Do this step before you need it: you can't accept a job until payout setup is finished. If you want to read about how Stripe's onboarding works, see its guide to Express accounts and the Stripe Express support pages.
Step 4: Tell the platform what you drive
Under your vehicle settings, add your car and tick every vehicle type you can supply: sedan, SUV, Sprinter, stretch limo and so on. You only see jobs for the types you tick. If you run a party bus, minibus or coach, your bus operating authority has to be approved as well.
Step 5: Turn on job alerts
Switch on alerts for your phone so new jobs in your city reach you the moment they're posted. On an iPhone, add the site to your Home Screen first and open it from there. Private browsing windows block alerts, so use a normal window.
Step 6: Accept your first job
Browse the job board or wait for an alert. Every job you see is already paid. Check:
- The route, the pickup time and where you'll finish.
- The vehicle type and passenger count.
- Any conditions, such as water, a name sign or a dress code.
- The payout, plus any free waiting time and extra-hour rate.
If it works, tap Accept and confirm you won't contact the client or passenger directly. If the number is too low for your car, propose your own with a counter-offer; when the poster says yes, they cover the gap before the trip starts.
Only accept jobs you can do. Giving a job back after accepting returns it to the board and gives you a strike, and three strikes pause your account.
Step 7: Run the trip and get paid
Run the trip from your phone: En route, On location, Passenger on board, then Trip complete. Add any waiting time, parking, tolls or extra stops when you close it. The walkthrough in running a limo trip from your phone shows each screen.
The money is released to you no later than 48 hours after drop-off and reaches your bank free in 1-2 business days, or in minutes with instant cash-out for a flat $2. A new client's first 5 trips are paid within 84 hours, to guard against card fraud.
Book a car for your own client

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to start taking jobs?
Most chauffeurs are ready the same week. Sign-up takes a couple of minutes, and a person usually checks each document within a business day.
Do I need my own vehicle?
For most jobs, yes. You accept trips as an independent chauffeur or owner-operator with your own vehicle. Fleet owners can accept jobs and name the chauffeur who drives.
Does LimoFarmOut see my bank details?
No. Your bank details go to Stripe, the payment company, and LimoFarmOut never sees them.
Why can't I accept a job yet?
Usually one of three things: your Stripe payout setup isn't finished, a required document isn't approved or has expired, or the job needs a vehicle type you haven't ticked.
Is there a fee to join or to take jobs?
No. Joining is free and drivers pay no fee on jobs. The only optional cost is a flat $2 for instant cash-out.
